Thelma Ida Mellin, age 88, of Howard Lake, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at her home.
Funeral service is today, May 19 at 10 a.m. at Howard Lake Christian Church, with Pastor Rick Messer officiating, preceded by visitation from 8:30 to 10 a.m at the church. Music will be provided by Dennis Entinger. Interment is at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Thelma was born March 1, 1920, in Aberdeen, S.D. to Emil and Ida (Seig) Elfman. Her family moved to Minnesota in 1925, and Thelma graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1938.
Thelma moved to California in 1943, where she worked at Lockheed Aircraft for three years during the war.
She married Herschel Fritts. Herschel died in 1969.
Thelma was married to Walter Mellin, who died in 1994.
Thelma lived in California for 52 years, from 1943 to 1995. While living in North Hollywood, she and her husband, Walter, were members of the Victory Center Church.
She moved to back to Minnesota in the fall of 1995.
Thelma was a faithful servant of the Lord as a member of the Howard Lake Christian Church.
She enjoyed the hobby of crocheting all her life. Many babies and adults are being kept warm by her blankets, and many hands are protected by her potholders.
Thelma is survived by many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great, great nieces and nephews: great, great, great nieces and nephews, and many friends and other family.
In addition to her husbands, Herschel Fritts and Walter Mellin, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Ida Elfman; a brother, August Elfman; and sisters Lorna Blanchette, Dorothy Dietz, Erna Elsenpeter, and Olga Hatcher.
Arrangements are by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato and Howard Lake.
