Allen Lee Mortensen, age 70, of Litchfield, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 8, 1937, in Greenleaf Township, Meeker County, the son of Allen and Alice (Lindner) Mortensen. Allen grew up in Litchfield, and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1955.
After school, he joined the US Army, serving in active and reserve duty until 1966. While in the reserves, he also worked at Finger Hut until 1968.
From 1973 to 1982, he worked at the Litchfield Garment Company. Also he was a partner in a part-time business from 1982 until 1989, called Crow River Sporting Goods, which offered sewing of letterman jackets and other specialty jackets and sportswear.
Allen then drove truck coast-to-coast delivering kits and reproductions of classic cars. He moved to California and worked in sales for a few years before returning to Litchfield.
He enjoyed deer hunting, trapping, and ice fishing. Allen also enjoyed social outings with friends and family, and warm weather. He was an avid bowler and was on a bowling team for many years.
Allen was fond of pets, especially his dogs over the years. He had a very special dog named Cody, whose leash and photos will be buried with Allen.
He is survived by many cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, and uncles.
Funeral service was Friday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin with Pastor Vicki Toutges officiating. Interment was in the Lake Ripley Cemetery, with military honors by Admiral Benson VFW Post 2818. Visitation took place for two hours prior to the funeral at the church.
Arrangements were handled by Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
