Mary Louise Munson, age 64, of Shoreview, passed away peacefully Monday, May 12, 2008, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
The daughter of Harold and Helen (Grangroth) Peterson, Mary’s mother died at her birth, and she spent much of her childhood with her grandparents, Herman and Alina Grangroth, on a farm north of Waverly.
She attended country school in Marysville Township, and was a 1961 graduate of Howard Lake High School.
Mary was confirmed at the Finnish Lutheran Church, north of Cokato.
She was united in marriage to Michael Munson of Howard Lake in 1963, at First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake by the Rev. James Wickstrom.
The couple lived near the University of Minnesota while Michael attend school, then lived in San Diego, Calif. for two years, and resided the past 36 years in Roseville and Shoreview.
Mary was a faithful member of Presbyterian Church of the Way in Shoreview.
Besides her devotion to family, Mary loved quilting, crafts, flower gardening, ethnic restaurants, and trips to the North Shore.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, with whom she spent 44 wonderful years; son Mark (Janet) of Louisville, Colo.; daughter Amy (Tim) Rice of Shore-view; grandchildren Ariel, Chloe, and Andrew Rice, and Caleb and Shea Munson; sister Shirley Barth; dear friend and cousin Dorothy Lee; and brother-in-law Peter Munson.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary will be greatly missed. Memories of her will always be cherished.
A gathering of friends and family took place Friday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Holcomb-Henry-Boom Funeral Home in Shoreview.
A memorial service followed Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at Presbyterian Church Of The Way in Shoreview.
