Mary H. “Marion” Neaton, age 81, of Watertown, died peacefully at home Friday, July 25, 2008.
She was born Jan. 14, 1927, to Ben and Mary (Reis) Cobian in River Falls, Wis.
Upon moving from River Falls to St. Paul as an adult, Mary was employed as a seamstress for Butwins.
She was united in marriage to Joseph F. Neaton in October of 1963.
Mary was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the pro-life movement.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, and friend.
Mary was actively involved in 4-H homemakers. She served as an election judge in Hollywood Township for many years. She enjoyed exhibiting at the Carver and Wright county fairs, and was honored as the longest continuous exhibitor at the Carver County Fair.
Mary loved to dance and play cards. She was known for her baking, especially apple pies, fudge, and divinity candy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Joseph F. Neaton; parents Ben and Mary Cobian; sisters Mildred Drewiski, and Bernidine Cobian; brother Norman Cobian; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Neaton Kosel, Cy Kosel, Francis Campbell, and Edward Neaton; and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Morris Neaton.
Mary is survived by her children, Joseph (LuAnn), Mary (William) Ohland, John (Mary), Michael (Debbie), Brian (Pam), James (Brenda), and Thomas (Karla); 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses Herbert (Irma) Cobian, Marlys (Herbie) Tauchen, Francis (Joyce) Cobian, Bernard Cobian, and Kenneth (Susan) Cobian; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law James (Monica) Neaton, Jo Neaton, Eileen (Francis) Campbell, and Jane (Art) Borer.
Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Frank Wampach officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 29 from 4 to 8 p.m., and continued for one hour prior to the Mass Wednesday, all at the church.
Casket bearers were Scott Neaton, Dan Neaton, Taylor Neaton, Chris Neaton, Joe A. Neaton, Amy Ohland, Jeff Neaton, and Sean Neaton. Honorary bearers were Kelly Neaton, Vicki Pierson, Katie Ohland, Becky Neaton, Ashley Neaton, Zac Neaton, Mikayla Neaton, and Isabelle Neaton.
Arrangements were by the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.
