Ruth Weibel Noreen, age 92, of Winsted, formerly of Minneapolis and Alexandria died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at her residence.
She was born April 30, 1916, in Winsted, the eldest of 13 children born to Paul J. and Ellen Carlson Weibel. Ruth was baptized as an infant, in 1916. She was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted in 1930.
Ruth was joined in holy marriage to Carl Noreen in March of 1936, in Minneapolis. God blessed their marriage with two daughters.
In Minneapolis, she was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. While living in Alexandria, she and her husband belonged to the Garfield Lutheran Church. Ruth currently was a faithful member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, and often served as the greeter.
Wherever she resided, Ruth was always an active volunteer. Through the years, she volunteered at Deaconess Hospital, was a past president of a VFW Auxiliary in Minneapolis, the Alexandria Senior Citizens, and Lester Prairie Senior Citizens. She currently belonged to the American Legion Post 407 Auxiliary.
Ruth is survived by beloved daughters, Sister Gladys Noreen, OSB, of Clyde, MO, and Phyllis Noreen of New York, NY; brothers and a sister Martin “Les” (Marilyn) Weibel of Minnetonka, June (George) Nick of Hastings, Harold “Pete” (Muriel) Weibel of Pillager, Glen (Ellen) Weibel of Cannon Falls, Bob (Mary Ann) Weibel of San Mateo, CA, and Curtis (Kathy) Weibel of Larsen, WI; sisters-in-law, Marcy Weibel of Winsted, and Jackie Weibel of Cokato; loving nephews and their families in Sweden; plus many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sept. 30, 1983; her parents, Paul J. and Ellen Weibel; five brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Gerald L. Boldt officiating. Organist was Sharon Pingree.. Interment followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Hevessy, Martin Weibel Jr., Renee Salonek, John Weibel, Harry Weibel, and Tim Reinke.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service and time of sharing at 7:30 p.m.
