Kenneth James “Kenny” Norman

Kenneth James “Kenny” Norman, age 86, of Winsted died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Aitkin, the son of Emil and Augusta M. Karels Norman.

Kenny honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and several merit badges.

Kenneth and Leila “Irene” Patrick were joined in holy marriage Feb. 27, 1943. God blessed their marriage with five children.

Kenny was a member of the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and the North Star Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Angelo Giuliani Award, presented by the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association, and was selected to the KDUZ/KARP Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Northwest Umpires Association for more than 30 years.

A faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Kenny also belonged to American Legion Post 407.

He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Norman; children: Gary (Annette) Norman, Richard “Dick” (Nancy) Norman, William “Bill” (Sharon) Norman, Carol Norman, all of Winsted, and Barbara (Brad) Schlagel of Aitkin; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five step great-granddaughters.

Kenny is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mae Patrick, Morace (Margie) Patrick, W. A. (Betty) Patrick Jr., Carl E. Patrick, Crystal Marchman, Marie Nicholson, and Hilda (Larry) Gumbinner, many nieces and nephews; and special friends Jeanne Norman and Mike Klein.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen Luedtke; a brother-in-law, Robert “Bud” Luedtke; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Horace (Opal) Patrick, Mattie Ree Patrick, Norman Patrick, Bob Marchman, and Nick Nicholson.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father William Sprigler was the celebrant. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the chapel of St. Mary’s Care Center, and continued from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. An American Legion Ritual took place at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Honorary casket bearers were Michelle Norman, Julie Norman, Chris Norman, Jeff Norman, Jacob Schlagel, and Tim Norman.

Casket bearers were Todd Norman, Pat Norman, Troy Norman, Ryan Norman, Neil Schlagel, and Chad Norman.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
