Margaret Julia Oelrich, age 88, of Cokato, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
The funeral service is today, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, with visitation for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Rev. Danville Swanson will officiate, and interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.
Casket bearers will be Lucas Homberger, Colton Homberger, Casey Homberger, Daniel Vincent, Michael Vincent, and Jethro Oelrich.
Arrangements are with the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
Margaret was born in Hartford Township, Minn. June 27, 1920, to Simon and Margaret (Gonsior) Kaluza. Her mother died shortly after her birth, and she was raised by her godparents, Joseph and Gertrude John.
She grew up in Browerville and graduated from high school there in 1938.
Margaret married Richard Walter Oelrich June 28, 1938. Richard was a creamery manager, and they lived in many locations until settling in Cokato in 1965. Richard passed away in 1990.
Margaret worked at Fingerhut, and for 18 years at Minnesota Mining in Hutchinson, retiring from there in 1987.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Waverly.
Margaret enjoyed music (she was a church organist and choir director in Alexandria for many years), needlework, and visiting with family and friends. Her family was most important to her.
She is survived by her children: Richard (Arlene) Oelrich, Rosanne Rengel of Milton, FL, Maggie (Steve) Warno of Champlain, Duane Oelrich of Las Vegas, NV, Susan (Bruce) Estes of Apple Valley, James (Jeannie) Oelrich of Woodbury, and Julie (Mike) Homberger of Loretto; sons-in-Law: Aarne Hill of Blaine; and Paul Kliewer of Cokato; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Richard, Margaret was preceded in death by her daughters, Carmen Hill and Barbara Kliewer; and a son-in-law, Gregory Rengel.
