Erland Otto Wilmar Raduenz, age 65, of Lester Prairie, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1942, in New Auburn Township of Sibley County, the son of Ervin and Mabel (Dose) Raduenz. Erland was baptized Dec. 6, 1942, at the Zion Lutheran Church of New Auburn Township; and confirmed in his faith March 22, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Young America by the Rev. G. H. Raedeke.
As a young man, Erland worked for his father driving milk truck.
He entered the US Army July 15, 1964, and received his honorable discharge July 5, 1966. During his enlistment, Erland was stationed in Vietnam for nine months. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter Medal.
Erland was united in marriage with Lois Wendorf Sept. 27, 1964, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. H. Weseloh.
Through the years, Erland was employed at Schwartz Manufacturing, drove gravel trucks, grain trucks, semi trucks, operated a co-op station, and since 1982, had operated a locksmith business. In 1997, Erland also began working part time for Bergen Township.
He was a member of the Lester Prairie American Legion, and currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
In his early years, Erland played softball and baseball in New Germany. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being “Mr. Fix it.” Erland cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandchild.
Erland was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law, Elroy Wendorf.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Raduenz of Lester Prairie; children Kimberly Reed (husband Charles) of Glencoe, Jeffrey Raduenz (wife Patricia) of Hutchinson, and Janet Johnson (husband Michael) of North St. Paul; grandchildren Amanda Gutknecht (husband Eric) of Glencoe, Jason Reed of Glencoe, Kyle Raduenz of Winsted, Kristi Abujarour of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kaitlyn Johnson, Emily Johnson, and Riley Johnson of North St. Paul; and a great-grandchild, Mariah Gutknecht.
Erland is further survived by brothers and sisters, Delroy Raduenz of Morton, Arlene Steinborn of Mayer, Ervin Raduenz Jr. (special friend Gail Swanson) of Rice, Marilyn Kunstleben (husband Dennis) of Avon, David Raduenz (wife Debbie) of Clearwater, Donnie Raduenz of Eden Valley, and Judy Ramthun (husband Richard) of Willmar; mother-in-law Eveline Wendorf of Waconia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Earl and Helen Wendorf of New Germany, Merlin and Eva Wendorf of North Lauderdale, Fla., Virgil and Majel Wendorf of New Germany, Joyce and Ed Lanie of Anoka, and Allen and Laura Wendorf of Watertown; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The funeral service took place Tuesday July 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. The organist was Marsha Christianson. Soloist Chuck Thiel sang “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” The congregational hymns included “Abide With Me,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Just As I Am.” Interment was in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Lester Prairie American Legion.
Visitation and evening prayer service took place Monday, July 7 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
Serving as casket bearers were Kris Wendorf, Mark Wendorf, Brett Wendorf, Barry Wendorf, Bill Lanie, Dale Steinborn, Jamie Kunstleben, Jeremy Kunstleben, David Wendorf, Daryl Wendorf, Jacob Wendorf, and Greg Wendorf.
