Frieda Ella Rusch, age 82, of Darwin, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Frieda was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Henry and Ella (Radunz) Schlueter. She grew up on the family farm in Acoma Township.
She was baptized at the Acoma Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Nov. 11, 1925, and later confirmed May 14, 1939, by Pastor Voigt.
Frieda graduated from the Hutchinson High School in 1943. After graduating, Frieda stayed with her grandma Bertha and grandpa Fred and worked at the bakery on the main street in Hutchinson.
Frieda was united in marriage to Ludwig William Rusch Feb. 4, 1945, at the Acoma Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. They made their home at the McDonalds Hatchery Farm near Hutchinson. For a short time they stayed at the Fred Luedtke farm, until they moved to the home farm near Darwin in 1950, where Frieda has since lived.
Frieda worked at 3M in Hutchinson, and retired in 1982, after 32 years. She was a member of the 3M Quarter Century Club, Euker Card Club, North/South Card Club, and the Mother’s Club while her children were in grade school. She was active with the 4-H, and was a head cook and managed the 4-H food stand at the Meeker County Fair for 35 years.
Ludy and Frieda went to Austria for their 25th wedding anniversary. They took many trips to Missouri to visit Roger and Dixie Schlueter and family. They also traveled to Lake Michigan, where they went salmon fishing with various friends and family. Frieda made two trips to Alaska, where she went fishing for halibut, enjoyed seeing the beautiful countryside and animals, and played cards and did some special visiting with family. The last big vacation she took was to the East Coast with her daughter. They traveled 6,000 miles in 30 days, covering 32 states and a small portion of Canada. Some of the highlights were visiting friends that they had met in Alaska, touring New York, Niagara Falls, the Smokey Mountains, and of course, playing cards along the way.
Frieda is survived by her children, Lorence W. Rusch of Litchfield, Gary A. Rusch of Darwin, and Debra R. Rusch of Dassel; four grandchildren, Scarlett Rusch, Austin Rusch, Lorien Rusch, and Matthew Michels; a sister, Clara (Mrs. Arnold) Luthens of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law Corrine (Mrs. Louis) Schlueter of Hutchinson, and Geraldine (Mrs. Elmer) Schlueter of Litchfield; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Hugo and Lois Rusch of Hutchinson, Leola Plaman of Montrose, and Lois Rusch of Grove City; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ludwig; parents; brothers Louis and Elmer; and sisters Alma Rusch and Gretchen Sprengler.
A funeral service took place Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield, with interment at the All Saints Lutheran Cemetery in Darwin.
Visitation was Tuesday evening, Sept. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel. and continued Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
