Arthur “Art” Peter Russek, age 89, of Delano, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Delano.
He was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Winsted Township to Peter and Anna (Mika) Russek.
Arthur worked in the CCC Camps, building the beach at Itasca State Park. From March 1941 to June 1945, he served with the 115th Ordinance in the China/Burma theatre, working on the Ledo road for two and one-half years.
Following World War II, Art returned to Delano, where he built Russek Oil, and then Russek Gas, which he operated for 30 years.
Art enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and spending time with his family at their cabin in northern Minnesota.
He was active in many civic associations including American Legion Post 377 (a past commander), Delano Sportsman’s Club (past president), and the Delano Volunteer Fire Department.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth (Lebovsky); children Robert and Shelley Russek, Carol Russek, and Donald Russek; and grandchildren Sean Russek and fiancée Amie, Ryan and Kristen Russek, and Jamieson Russek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and his eldest son, Richard.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Feb. 8 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
