Myrtle M. Schlagel Obituary – 11/20/08


Myrtle M. Schlagel, age 90, of rural Howard Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

She was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Lester Prairie, the daughter of Joseph and Matilda Emme Posusta.

Myrtle and Donald F. Schlagel were joined in holy marriage Sept. 18, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Father Wey. God blessed their marriage with six children.

Myrtle and Don engaged in dairy farming for many years.

Myrtle was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

She enjoyed gardening, dancing, baking, going to casinos, and going out to eat, and she loved to travel.

Myrtle is survived by her children: David H. (Mary E.) Schlagel of Forest Lake, Gary A. Schlagel of Howard Lake, Diane M. (Clem) Bayerl of Winsted, Cindy L. (Donald J.) Laxen of Howard Lake, and Galen G. Schlagel of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren: Jason (Jennifer) Schlagel, Alyssa Matheis, Kristen Schlagel, Scott (Pam) Bayerl, Frank (Tammy) Bayerl, Candice Laxen, and Daniel Laxen; nine great grandchildren; brothers Ray (Rose) Posusta of Cokato, and Irvan (Marge) Posusta of Glencoe; a sister, Dorothy Ernhart of Park Rapids; sisters-in-law Mary/ Gilbert Schlagel and Betty/Alden Schlagel; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Schlagel; a daughter, Beverly; a grandson, Joey Bayerl; her parents, Joseph and Matilda Posusta; two sisters, Evelyn Posusta and Lenora Pokorney; a brother, Wilfred Posusta; and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father William Sprigler was the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Casket bearers were Daniel Laxen, Jason Schlagel, Scott Bayerl, Frank Bayerl, Private Jsonin Dilley, Tyler Bayerl, and Joey Bayerl.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
