Iris Clara Elizabeth Schultz

Iris Clara Elizabeth Schultz, age 87, of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at her home in rural Lester Prairie.

Iris was born June 13, 1921 to Gustav and Ida (Wischnack) Pawelk Jr. in Camden Township, Carver County, on her parents’ New Germany farm. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany. She attended the local church school through the seventh grade and completed eighth grade at the local public school.

She was united in marriage with Walter Schultz at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany Nov. 3, 1940. They were blessed with six children, 22 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Before her marriage, Iris worked as an in-home doctor’s assistant, a home nursing caregiver, and a store clerk. She later performed the bookkeeping services for her husband in his business and for the family farm. As a farm housewife, she taught Sunday School at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and in her later years did volunteer work with Parents Anonymous.

Iris found pleasure in gardening, canning, collecting cups, and doing embroidery work. She also enjoyed reading and taking care of her rock gardens and flowers. But her main love and joy came from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – always expressing pride in their activities, often cooking for them, and attending many of their events.
