Reinhardt “Bud” Carl Schumann Obituary – 10/26/08


Reinhardt “Bud” Carl Schumann, age 86, of Lake Jennie, rural Dassel, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1922, in Collinwood Township, Meeker County, the son of Herman and Augusta “Boeder” Schumann. Bud was baptized as an infant Aug. 13, 1922, at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church (now Peace Lutheran Church) in Hutchinson, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth April 26, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township, McLeod County.

Bud received his education at the Lake Jennie country school in Collinwood Township.

He entered active military service in the US Army June 23, 1945, and served his country during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge Feb. 13, 1946.

Bud was united in marriage to Grace Brede Sept. 19, 1948, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with three children.

Bud and Grace resided and farmed near Lake Jennie, Collinwood Township, for all of the 60 years of their married life.

Bud was a lifelong farmer.

He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and woodworking, and working in his yard. Bud loved people and socializing. He especially enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.

He was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Bud is survived by his wife, Grace Schumann of rural Dassel; children, Dale Schumann and his wife, Judy, of Hutchinson, Glenn Schumann and his wife, Julie, of Dassel, and Leann Olson and her husband, Rod, of Hutchinson; grandchildren Mark Schumann and his special friend, Stacy Bern; David Schumann and his wife, Melissa; Aimee Brown and her husband, Terry; Anna Aamot and her husband, Tim; Maria Asplin and her husband, Jay; and Sarah Nyquist and her husband, Dan; and great-grandchildren Meghan Brown, Colin Brown, Julia Aamot, Luke Aamot, Leah Aamot, Elijah Aamot, Gabriel Aamot, Eden Aamot, Michael Asplin, Peter Asplin, Collin Asplin, and Erik Asplin.

Bud is further survived by great-great-grandchildren Tyler Brown and Aidan Zietz; special friend Al Barkeim of Hutchinson; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Augusta Schumann; six sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Gerhard Bode officiating. Music was provided by organist Paul Otte, and soloist Jon Benson, who sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Abide With Me.” Interment was at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Hutchinson with military honors provided by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.

Urn bearers were grandsons Mark Schumann and David Schumann.Honorary bearers were granddaughters Aimee Brown, Anna Aamot, Maria Asplin, and Sarah Nyquist.
