Ethelyn Jesse Smith Obituary – 02/22/08


Ethelyn Jesse Smith, age 97, of Howard Lake, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at her home.

She was born March 19, 1910, in Rosholt, S.D. to Henry and Agnes Moeller.

Ethelyn married Lewis “Lefty” Smith in Sisseton, S.D. The couple moved around with Lefty’s job, and lived in Rosholt, Glenwood, and Howard Lake.

A member of the Garden Club, Ethelyn also enjoyed playing cards in the fish house, and spending time with family and friends. She mentored many children and adults with her knitting skills.

Ethelyn had an infectious laugh, and was always ready to share a witty saying or a joke with you.

She is survived by her son, Virgil (Vickie) Smith of British Columbia; and grandchildren Jonathan Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Jaime Smith, and Jason Smith.

Ethelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Patricia Smith; twin sister Evelyn; sister Ann; and brothers Mickey and Earl.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake with the Rev. Myra Carroll-Pezzella officiating. Music was provided by Patricia Munson. Interment was in the Howard Lake City Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Harlan Adickes, Grant Judd, Larry Mead, and Jonathan Smith.

Arrangements were by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake and Cokato.
