Cordella E. Spomer Obituary – 11/16/08


Cordella E. Spomer, age 94, of New Germany, was called to the Lord God Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at the Golden Living Care Center in Delano.

She was born Jan. 13, 1914, in Hollywood Township to Frederick and Margareta (Lutter) Strehlke. Cordella was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. Feb. 8, 1914, and she affirmed her baptismal vow April 1, 1928 at the same church by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.

Cordella pledged herself in wedded love to Benjamin Spomer Oct. 3, 1933, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.

Cordella was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran church in Hollywood Twp. Other pastimes she enjoyed were fishing and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; father and mother, Frederick and Margareta Strehlke; sisters Agnes Schumacher and Alice Kubasch; and brothers Walter Strehlke and Martin Strehlke.

Cordella is survived by her caregivers, Vernon and Darlene Strehlke of New Germany; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp., New Germany with visitation one hour prior to the time of the service at the church. The Rev. Robert Rupprecht officiated. Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Mark Strehlke, James Strehlke, Bruce Narr, Hilton Born, Don Schumacher, Roman Widmer, and Nicole Strehlke Baumann.
