Mavis (Hecht) Stanley Obituary – 03/12/08


Mavis (Hecht) Stanley, age 57, of Hernando, Miss., formerly of Waverly and Montrose, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at a Memphis, Tenn. hospital.

Mavis attended Howard Lake High School and was named homecoming queen in 1967.

She served as a church organist at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and United Methodist Church, both in Montrose.

Mavis was employed at First Tennessee Bank for 20 years. She was an avid dancer, and helped start the Memphis chapter of USA Dance.

She was involved in numerous activities at Crossroads United Church, and touched the hearts of all she met.

Mavis is survived by her husband, Barry D. Stanley; a daughter, Tamara Howard (Little); a son-in-law, Steven Eric Howard; a stepdaughter, Shelly (Eric) Duncan; stepgrandchldren Randal, Jessie, and Ian Duncan; her mother, Edna Hecht; and a brother, Wayne Hecht.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Hecht; a cousin, David Streich; and two uncles, Harlan Streich and Wally F. Yager.

Funeral services took place at Crossroads United Methodist Church Saturday, March 15.
