Alvin Karl Stone Obituary – 11/23/08


Alvin Karl Stone, age 68, of Darwin died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at his home.

A memorial service will take place today, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Thor Skeie officiating. Interment of the urn will be at All Saints Cemetery in Darwin at a later date.

Memorial arrangements are being handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.

Alvin was born April 28, 1940, the son of Lloyd and Lucille (Euerle) Stone, on the family farm northwest of Hutchinson. he was baptized and confirmed at the Vineyard Methodist Church.

In 1958, Alvin graduated from the Hutchinson High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He was employed by Tart-Ide out of Hamel after his military service.

On June 19, 1965, Alvin was united in marriage to Dianne J. Bohn at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills. They lived in Delano for five years, when they built a house outside of town, with Alvin doing all the work on the house.

In 1971, they moved to the Darwin homestead, where they have made their home since.

In Delano, Alvin was employed for a Delano car dealership; he also worked for the Montrose Lumber Yard, Palm Inc. in Litchfield, Lloyd Broberg Construction of Dassel, Ideal Lumber in Litchfield, and Palo Companies Inc. of Cokato.

He was also self-employed for many years, working as a carpenter. He enjoyed his work as a carpenter and was a perfectionist. He also enjoyed working on cars and tractors throughout his life. He could fix anything – he was Dianne’s handyman. He also enjoyed his grandchildren when they came to visit, as well as visiting with family and friends.

Alvin was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin, having served on the church council, and numerous other committees.

He was also a member of the Litchfield American Legion, the Litchfield Eagle Club, and Darwin Rod and Gun Club.

Alvin will be missed by his wife, Dianne; sons, Mark (Toni) Stone of Breezy Point, and Matthew Stone of Darwin; grandsons Emerson, Darren, and Alan; his mother, Lucille; brother Gary (Joyce) Stone of Watertown, SD; and sister, Deloris Wetter of Delano.

He is also survived by mother-in-law, Doris Bohn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julie and Keith Fredrickson, Richard and Bonnie Bohn, Kenney and Lisa Bohn, and Norman and Marlene Bohn; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family members; and many friends and neighbors.

Alvin was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; and father-in-law, Earl Bohn.
