Earl Edwin Stradtmann Obituary – 03/14/08


Earl Edwin Stradtmann, age 77, of Glencoe, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born May 11, 1930, in Glencoe, the son of August and Frieda (Schuette) Stradtmann. Earl was baptized June 8, 1930, at First Ev. Lutheran Church by the Rev. E. Kolbe, and confirmed in the faith at the same church May 7, 1944, by the Rev. A. Streufert.

Earl attended country school close to the family farm.

He was united in marriage with Mabel Dammann June 11, 1953, at Emanuel Lutheran Church of Hamburg by the Rev. L.T. Wohfeil. The couple made their home on the family farm. Their union was blessed with five children: Linda, Laurie, Karen, Brenda, and Brian.

Earl was a lifelong member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church.

He had served on the Glencoe Butter and Produce board of directors.

A farmer all of his life, Earl suffered a disabling stroke in 1986.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Earl especially enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his father, August Stradtmann; mother, Frieda (Schuette) Stradtmann; father-in-law Fred Dammann; mother-in-law, Selma (Zinke) Dammann; sister Vera Schauer; brother Vernon Stradtmann; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Norwin Engelmann, Raymond Schauer, Harlan Dammann, and Yvonne Dammann Beneke.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel Stradtmann of Glencoe; children, Linda LaMott (husband David) of Lester Prairie, Laurie Alexander (husband Milan), Karen Witthus (husband Alan), Brenda Maynard (husband Scott), and Brian Stradtmann, all of Glencoe; grandchildren Dawn LaMott, Dustin LaMott (friend Dawn), Daniel LaMott (wife Christin), Angela Abfalter (husband Jason), Jessica Johnson (husband Brian), Brittany Alexander (friend Bryan), Briana Alexander, Eric Witthus (fiancée Amber), Joel Witthus, Kati Bondhus (husband Adam), Austin Maynard, and Mitchell Maynard; and great-grandchildren Blake and Jordan Mickolichek, Sophia Abfalter, and Hayden Witthus.

Earl is further survived by a brother, Lyle Stradtmann (wife Linda) of Glencoe; a sister, Rhodella Engelmann of Glencoe; sisters-in law and brother-in-law Linda Stradtmann, Eileen Berndt, Roger and Myra Jahr, and Elaine Stradtmann Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Wednesday, March 19 at First Ev. Lutheran Church of Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Softly And Tenderly,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Asleep In Jesus.” Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation took place Tuesday evening, March 18 at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.

Serving as casket bearers were Lance Stradtmann, Travis Stradtmann, Mike Keenan, Larry Phillips, Tom Hueser, and Scott Litzau. Earl’s grandchildren were honorary casket bearers.
