Doris Dell Stumpf, age 88, of Waverly, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
She was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Marysville Township, Waverly, to Alfred and Daisy Swanson.
Doris married Frank (Francis) W. Stumpf June 19, 1947. They had three daughters.
Doris was a homemaker, who in her retirement years, enjoyed working at her friend’s apple orchard. She loved to garden, and spent considerable time tending to her beautiful flowers.
She also loved to visit with her relatives and friends and took delight in having visitors at the farm. Frank and Doris spent many memorable years traveling together, and especially enjoyed their winters in Arizona.
Doris was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and an over 50-year member of the Buffalo American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Barry) Brobeck of Rochester, and Diane Stumpf of Buffalo; sister Laurella Vieau; brother Leroy (Sally) of Buffalo; brothers Kenneth Swanson and Harold Swanson of Waverly; sister-in-law Lenora Swanson of Minneapolis; beloved nieces and nephews; grandchildren Randy (Angela Nolan) Martin of San Francisco, CA, Jennifer Martin of Brooklyn, NY, Catherine Brobeck of Los Angeles, CA, and Elizabeth Brobeck of Lake Forest, IL; and great-grandson Bradford Martin of San Francisco, CA.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; daughter Joanne Martin; brothers Vernon, Alvin, and Marvin Swanson; sisters Grace Erickson and Ruby Stumpf; and several much loved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.
Visitation took place Friday, Oct. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Arrangements were by the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
