Luverna Frances Thiesfeld

Funeral services celebrating the life of Luverna Frances Thiesfeld, age 89, of Glencoe, took place Monday, Aug. 25 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Luverna died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit.

The Rev. James Gomez officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Marjorie Hemmann. Soloist Lawrence Biermann sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Congregational hymns were “O That The Lord Would Guide My Ways” and “Just As I Am.” Interment was in the Glencoe Cemetery.

Luverna’s family served as her casket bearers.

Visitation took place Sunday evening, Aug. 24 at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.

Luverna was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Helen Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Templin) Biermann. She was baptized March 23, 1919, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Helen Township by the Rev. A. J. Dysterheft; and confirmed in the faith by the same pastor, Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933.

She attended District 39 school and the St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School, and graduated from the Glencoe High School in 1937.

Luverna was united in marriage with Arnold H. Thiesfeld May 15, 1938, at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. J. Dysterheft. The couple settled on the Thiesfeld family farm, west of Glencoe. This union was blessed with five children, James, Roger, Thomas, Susan, and Gary, who passed away at the age of 3months in December 1943.

Luverna became a member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society, where she served as president; and on various other committees.

In July of 1960, the Thiesfeld family joined others to become charter members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where Luverna was a charter member of the Good Shepherd Women’s Guild and also served as president.

Luverna was very proud to be the wife of a farmer. She enjoyed baking, canning, visiting with family and friends, and sharing with others. Luverna loved being with her children and grandchildren, and was always interested in everyone’s activities.

In addition to her son, Gary, Luverna was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Minnie Biermann; husband Arnold Thiesfeld; daughter-in-law Suzanne Thiesfeld; brother Allan Biermann; and sisters Marie Boltmann and Helen Lindemann.

She is survived by her children, James Thiesfeld of Park Rapids, Roger Thiesfeld of Glencoe, Thomas Thiesfeld (wife Judith) of Deerwood, and Susan May (husband William) of Cokato; grandchildren Sondra Redman (husband Curt), Michael Thiesfeld (wife Alison), Rebecca Thiesfeld, Jennifer Waller (husband Jeremie), Jeffrey May, and Jason May (wife Jann); and great-grandchildren Matthew, Rebecca, Jacob, Nicole, Megan, Jamie, Jonah, Nathaniel, Samuel, Lucy, Alexander, Arik, and Andrew.

Luverna is further survived by a brother, Lawrence Biermann (wife Ruth) of Norwood Young America; sister Rose Kroeger of Lake Crystal; brother-in-law Hillard Boltmann of Glencoe; and many other relatives and friends.
