Dr. Elmer Edward Thiesse, DDS, age 84, of Howard Lake, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at home.
He was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Ceylon, Minn., to William and Amanda (Leiding) Thiesse.
Elmer served with the US Navy Seabees during World War II.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in civil engineering (1945), and dentistry (1951).
Dr. Thiesse had dental practices in both Howard Lake and Buffalo for many years.
He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, as well as Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Chi Epsilon, and Tau Beta Pi.
Dr. Thiesse was mayor of Howard Lake from 1969 to 1978, and was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Audrey; five children: Bill (Sandy) of Maple Grove, John (Sherri) of Orono, Philip (Kim) of Excelsior, Annie (Scott) Thon of Omaha, Neb., and Mea (Todd) Hurley of Brooklyn Park; nine grandchildren: Molly Thiesse, Ben and Sam Thiesse, Paige and Maddie Thiesse, Elizabeth and Carl Thon, and Mija and Jacob Hurley, and brothers and sisters Sylvan Thiesse, Marvin Thiesse, Donald Thiesse, Vera Halverson, Luella Beckendorf, and Arleen Preston.
A private memorial service for family took place Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Memorials are preferred to St. James Lutheran School, Howard Lake, or Ridgeview Hospice, Waconia.
