Laverna I. Venske, age 87, of New Germany, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Laverna was born April 5, 1920, in Camden Township, Carver County, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Goede) Guetzkow. She was baptized April 18, 1920, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf, and confirmed by the same March 25, 1924.
She was united in marriage to Virgil M. Venske May 3, 1939, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf.
A loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Laverna enjoyed time with her family, gardening, and working with her flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; daughter Cheryl Berge; father and mother, Albert and Minnie Guetzkow; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gust and Elizabeth Venske.
Laverna is survived by her loving family: son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Linda Venske of New Germany; grandsons Clinton Berge of Silver Lake, and Ryan Venske of St. Louis Park; great-grandchildren Alicia, Erica, and Shane; sister Viola Schroeder of Waconia; brother Willard Guetzkow of Watertown; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Melfred Venske of Little Falls, Marvin and Pat Venske of Randall, Elvera Petrick of Little Falls, Viola Sanders of Stillwater, Edward Woodworth of Wisconsin, Donna and Lee Hain of Worthington, Betty and John Peterson of Anoka, and Rita Venske of Randall; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Tuesday. Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiating. Interment was in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Clinton Berge, Ryan Venske, Ron Venske, Jim Anderson, Jim Kubasch, and Ted Venske.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
