Elizabeth “Liz” Agnes Wendolek Obituary – 05/04/08


Elizabeth “Liz” Agnes Wendolek, age 80, of Hutchinson and formerly of rural Glencoe, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Birchwood Hospice House.

She was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the daughter of August S. Quast and Anna C. Neumann. Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Elizabeth also attended Holy Trinity High School for two years. In 1976, she received her GED.

Elizabeth was joined in holy marriage to Albin W. Wendolek June 2, 1951. They lived in rural Glencoe, where they farmed for many years.

Liz was also formerly employed at Green Giant and retired from 3M.

She enjoyed traveling, gambling, and bingo.

A faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, Liz belonged to VFW Post 5102 in Glencoe as a life member, and to American Legion Post 141’s Auxiliary in Silver Lake.

She is survived by daughter Cindy and Tom Hanning of Galion, Ohio; son Randy and Lori Wendolek of Eagan; daughters-in-law Mrs. Larry (Bobbi) Wendolek of Glencoe, and Mrs. Chris (Lori) Wendolek of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter Cathy Hansen of St. Cloud; 11 grandchildren: Jessica, Patrick, Nicole, Dawn, Aaron, Colin, Ken, Matthew, Eric, Connor, and Sam; and five great-grandchildren, Jessie, Dusty, Matt Jr., Carson, and Wyatt.

Liz is further survived by 15 brothers and sisters: Marcella Wegner of Howard Lake, Celina Polkoski, Irene (Leonard) Rozeske, Paul (Bonnie) Quast, all of Winsted, Ray (Millie) Quast of Waconia, Bernard (Margie) Quast, Marian (Roger) Moy, both of Winsted, Laurina (Joe) Zajicek of Glencoe, Josephine (Tom) Hagstrom of Forest Lake, Janet (Bernie) Stock, Rose (Bob) Lindenberger, both of Omaha, N.D., Clarence (Elaine) Quast of Ocala, Fla., Donna Kenyon of Minneapolis, Lois (Bill) Goehring of Grand Rapids, and Dianne (Paul) Smith of St. Charles, Mo.; sisters-in-law Shirley (Mrs. Leander) Quast of Winsted, Alice (Mrs. Wilbert) Lueck, and Mary Ann (Mrs. Bernie) Ardolf of Glencoe; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albin W. Wendolek; sons Chris and Larry Wendolek; granddaughter Jenny Wendolek; parents August and Anna Quast; brothers Joseph and Leander Quast; a sister, Caroline Quast; brothers-in-law Weldon Wegner, Ted Polkoski, Kerry Kenyon, Wilbert Lueck, and Bernie Ardolf; and nephews Harold Wegner and Gary and Bob Rozeski.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Brian Oestreich was the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Adalbert Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, May 6 at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake from 4 to 8 p.m., with a VFW Auxiliary ritual by Post 1502 at 6 p.m., an American Legion Post 141 Auxiliary ritual at 6:45 p.m., and a CCW rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Casket bearers were Russ Zajicek, Todd Zajicek, Craig Zajicek, Keith Zajicek, John Rozeske, and Dan Miller.

The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake served the family.
