Ronald Louis Winterhalter Obituary – 02/09/08


Ronald Louis Winterhalter, age 70, of Delano, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.

He was born Sept. 10, 1937, at home to Louis and Catherine (Patnode) Winterhalter of Medina.

Ron grew up in the Medina and Corcoran area. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Loretto, and St. Michael High School.

He served in the US Army, stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1962.

Ron was united in marriage to Rose (Scherer) Sept. 14, 1963, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Medina. They had four children, Erwin, William, Angela, and Ann.

The family lived in Medina on Holy Name Lake until 1979. In August 1979, they moved to a farm in Delano.

Ron worked in the automotive and tire industry for over 40 years, most recently for Westside Tire in Corcoran.

He was a familiar face behind the Hamel VFW bar, and was active with the Hamel VFW, Hamel Rodeo Committee, American Legion in Delano, and The Catholic Aid Association.

A proud member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Ron served as an usher there for over 25 years.

His hobbies were farming, spending time with friends and neighbors, fixing up old tractors, and visiting on Sunday afternoons for Miller time. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and very good friend Duane. Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rose (Scherer); children Erwin and LuAnn Winterhalter, William and Melissa Winterhalter, Angela Winterhalter, and Ann and David (Bohnen); seven grandchildren: Keith, Abigail, Julia, James, Haley, Brett, and a baby due in June; siblings Merle and Betty Winterhalter and Faye and Butch Bakeberg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill and Alice Scherer, Mary and Woody Johnson, Barbara and Joe Blaine, Margaret and Greg Reiser, Rita Jordan, and Betsy and Ken Kottke; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery, with military honors provided by the Hamel VFW and the Delano American Legion.

Casket bearers were Duane Snaza, Loren Leuer, Steve Jordan, Tim Winterhalter, Tim Bakeberg, Keith Winterhalter, James Winterhalter, and Darwin Johnson.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
