Harlan Maurice Yager, age 83, of Howard Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born June 19, 1925, in rural Howard Lake, the son of Fred and Lydia (Krohn) Yager. A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, he was baptized July 19, 1925, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz, and confirmed in his faith April 2, 1939, by the Rev. Eugene Seltz.
Harlan was married to Marcella Klammer June 6, 1950, by the Rev. Theo Melinat. They were blessed with four children and made their home and living on a farm south of Howard Lake.
Harlan was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He enjoyed nature and felt especially close to God when outdoors. As a conservationist, Harlan realized the importance of natural resources and was active in the preservation of lakes, forests, and grasslands in the local area.
Being active in the community, Harlan had served as a Victor Township supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lydia Yager; a son, David; two sisters, Valeria Ernhart and Lorna Anderson; and a brother, Eugene Yager.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Marcella; daughters Gail Gerber, Jane (Bob) Bayerl, and Julie (Tom) Grad; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arwood (Helen) Yager, and Donald (Lorelie) Yager; nieces; nephews; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Butterfass. Interment was at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Jason Gerber, Aaron Gerber, Bill Gerber, Joe Keating, Josh Keating, and Greg Yager. Honorary casket bearers were Bob Bayerl, Tom Grad, Ross Anderson, and Dick Johnson.
The Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake handled the arrangements.
