Wilma Mae Ahlgren, age 83, of Dassel, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born Jan. 22, 1926, in Litchfield, the daughter of Harold and Henrietta (Wendorff) Werner.
Wilma grew up and graduated from Litchfield High School, and then attended cosmetology school in Minneapolis at age 17.
She was united in marriage to Wilton “Bud” Ahlgren June 22, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Litchfield. The couple made their home on the Ahlgren family farm, southwest of Dassel.
In 1999, they moved to their own piece of heaven on Lake Washington, where they have resided since.
Wilma owned and operated Wilma’s Beauty Salon in Dassel in the ‘60s and ‘70s, enjoying both her work and the friendships she made.
In 1980, Wilma changed careers and became a real estate salesperson, until 1985. For the past decade, Wilma occasionally worked as a “secret shopper” outside the Dassel area, filling out reports regarding customer service and store conditions later online, then scanning and e-mailing them to the client to complete the job.
She was an award-winning amateur photographer and for years, belonged to the View Finders Photography Club. She so enjoyed The Golden Girls (her former Minnesota Home Extension Club), their friendships and their outings.
Wilma, and the love of her life, Bud, had a wonderful life together. Wilma loved to spend time with her family, cooking, making everyone smile and laugh with her special sense of humor (the “Werner Wit”), and blessing them with her unconditional love and wisdom.
Wilma will also be missed by her cat, Itty, whom she adored.
A dedicated member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, Wilma cherished Sunday worship services, coffee conversations after church, her Rebecca group, WELCA, the friendships she made there, and the guidance and continued growth she received at Gethsemane as she lived her faith.
She will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Wilton “Bud” Ahlgren of Dassel; children, Gary Ahlgren of Dassel, and Bonnie (Greg) McManus of Chanhassen; two grandchildren, Darin (Lusie) Kinn and Kara Kinn; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Kinn and Lacie Kinn; and her siblings, Dale (Laura) Werner of Darwin, and sister, June Bengtson of Kandiyohi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Rosenow Talley; and an infant brother, Wayne.
