Raymond Altendorf Obituary – 06/30/09


Raymond M. “Ray” Altendorf, age 78, of Maple Plain, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

He was born July 8, 1930, to Frank and Magdalena Altendorf in Independence.

Ray was a lifelong farmer on the Maple Plain farm where he was born. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially darkhouse spearing.

Along with farming, Ray was the Jacques/Mycogen seed dealer in the area for more than 30 years.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Marian; children Mary and Ralph Widmer, Rick and Jennifer Altendorf, Roger and Debbie Altendorf, Randy and Ana Altendorf, and Marla and Pete Dubay; eight grandchildren, Danielle and Corey Wangsness, John Widmer and special friend Becky Smith, Marshall Altendorf, Jake Altendorf, Kayla Altendorf, Matt Altendorf, Amanda Altendorf, and Beth Ann Altendorf; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Ava Wangsness; as well as many other family members, and his faithful companion, Maggie.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, July 3 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. The Rev. John Gallas officiated at the Mass, with interment in the St. Mark’s Cemetery in Buffalo.

Casket bearers were Ray’s grandchildren: Danielle Wangsness, John Widmer, Marshall Altendorf, Jake Altendorf, Kayla Altendorf, Matt Altendorf, Amanda Altendorf, and Beth Ann Altendorf. Honorary bearers were Luke and Ava Wangsness, Corey Wangsness and Becky Smith.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
