Jerry Lee Andrews, age 71, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at the Minnesota Veterans Home of early-onset Alzheimer’s.
He was born at home Nov. 16, 1938, in Moonshine Township, Big Stone County, MN, the youngest of 12 children born to William and Annie Andrews.
Jerry attended Graceville High School.
In 1956, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served stateside as well as in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa, until his honorable discharge in 1960.
Jerry was married to Amber Dawn Roben in 1962. To this union, two children were born.
Jerry made his career as a carpenter. Over the years he built two of the Andrews’ homes.
He also took great pride in raising Hereford and Angus beef cattle and managing the family hobby farm with his family. He was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan.
Jerry was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Elmer (Catherine) Andrews, Roy (Delores) Andrews, Lyle (Clara Jeanne) Andrews, Erma (Phillip) Petersdorf, Louise (Ervin) Winters, Ruby (Eddie) Parkins, Janet (Dick) DuBeau, and Ralph (Milly) Andrews
He is survived by his children, Kathy Lee Andrews-Parker (J. Paul Parker), and Chris Ernest Andrews (Lisa Marie); grandchildren Samantha Parker Lanier and Jacob Parker, and Valerie, Jill and David Sheldon; great-grandchildren Wyatt and Cody Lease; and brother and sisters Ione (Val) Bechthold, Elrine (Al) Bennett, and Arlo (Phyllis) Andrews.
Memorial services took place Friday, Dec. 11 at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano with the Rev. Lynn Seep officiating. Music was provided by Mark Anderson and Peteria Cochran.Private family inurnment was in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, with military honors provided by the Delano American Legion Post 377.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
