Luverna C. Baumann, 86

Luverna C. Baumann, age 86, of New Germany, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at St. Mary’s Senior Living Center in Winsted.

She was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Camden Township, Carver County, the daughter of William and Lydia (Goede) Zuehl. Luverna was baptized Jan. 28, 1923, and confirmed April 5, 1936, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf.

Luverna was united in marriage to Walter R. Baumann Jan. 4, 1941, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by Rev. Rolf.

A loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Luverna enjoyed quilting, playing cards, 500, bridge, and sheephead, old tyme music, and dancing.

She was a member of St. Mark Ladies Aid.

Luverna worked at Tonka Toys for 10 years, was a Ridgeview Medical Center housekeeper for 10 years, and served as a volunteer driver for Carver County from 1983 till 2005.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Baumann; son-in-law Eldon Klemp; father and mother William and Lydia Zuehl; brother Roland Zuehl; and sister Arlene Zuehl.

Luverna is survived by her loving family; daughter and son-in-law Luann and Maynard Kirchoff of Mayer; sons and daughters-in-law Virgil Baumann, Weldon and Twylla Baumann, all of New Germany, and Harlan and Cheryl Baumann of Mayer; grandchildren Rachel and John Bening, Ruth and Corey Weikle, Brent Baumann and special friend Rae Miller, Heidi Pahl, Krista and Michael Lindgren, Craig and Jessica Baumann, Nicholas and Stacey Baumann, Michael and Dawn Baumann, Cory and Brenda Baumann, Robbie and Paula Baumann, Jennifer and Robert Ramos, and Jeremy and Jessica Baumann; and great-grandchildren Maria, Sarah, Jonathon, Lauren, Kayla, Alex, Brandon and fiancée Patricia, Courtney, Zachary, Hannah, Luke, Ashley, Charity, Brooke, Ryan, Zach, Christopher, Becca, Trevor, McKenna, Brayden, Olivia, Ella, and Sophia.

She is further survived by brother and sisters-in-law Delwin and Joyce Zuehl of Waconia, and Ella Zuehl of Winsted; aunt Lillian Lemke of Watertown; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Wednesday, May 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating, preceded by visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Casket bearers were Luverna’s grandchildren: Rachel Bening, Ruth Weikle, Brent Baumann, Heidi Pahl, Krista Lindgren, Craig Baumann, Nicholas Baumann, Michael Baumann, Cory Baumann, Robbie Baumann, Jennifer Ramos, and Jeremy Baumann.
