Harold C. Berg, age 93, of Atwater and Englewood, FL, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in Florida.
Harold was born Aug. 17, 1916. on the Berg farm, west of Atwater, to Charles and Annie (Anderson) Berg.
He graduated from Atwater High School, served with the Civilian Conservation Corps, enlisted in the US Navy, and was aboard the USS Phoenix at Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941.
Harold married Helen Muriel Corkins Oct. 19, 1946. They raised three sons in Atwater, where Harold worked as postmaster for 24 years.
Harold was very active and held office in the state and national chapters of NAPUS (National Association of Postmasters of the United States) and the Retired Postmasters.
Harold and Helen split their time between Minnesota and Florida after retirement, spending a few recent summers in Dassel.
Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; two sons, Bruce in Minnesota, and Bill (and daughter-in-law Colette) of Montana; a sister, Nettie; and a brother, Arnold; along with beloved sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jim; a sister, Irene; and brothers Chuck, Melvin, LeRoy, Elmer, and Duke.
