Elizabeth Block Obituary – 4/3/09


Elizabeth Block, age 79, of Annandale, died Friday, April 3, 2009.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at the Annandale Kingdom Hall, 320 Pleasant Avenue, with luncheon to follow at the Corinna Township Hall.

Betty was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Meeker County, the fourth of 10 children born to Albert and Vinie (Sandlund) Nelson.

She married Alfred Block May 18, 1947, in St. Paul.

In the spring of 1971, they moved to the French Lake area, and bought the original homestead (Happy Corners) that Betty’s great-grandparents built and farmed.

Betty became a resident of Annandale in 1987.

A devoted mother, whose greatest joy in life was her family, Betty was also an avid gardener, loved anything crafty, and enjoyed cooking, baking, and everything centering on her home. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty is survived by her seven children: Janice (Milton) Cammack of Annandale, Gary (Delores) Block of Monticello, David (Kimberly) Block of Annandale, Kevin (Ruby) Block of Vancouver, BC; Darold (Lisa) Block, Teresa (William) Eckleberry, all of French Lake, and John (Wendy) Block of New York; 14 grandchildren: Benjamin, Sarah, Eric, Heidi, and Rebecca; Joshua, Jeremy, Jason, Jonathon, and Jacob; Daniel and Thomas; and Naomi and Isaac; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by her siblings, Luella Opsahl, Lloyd (Tina) Nelson, Glen Nelson, Corabelle Carletta, Donna Payne, Clayton Nelson, Vernon (Carol Ann) Nelson, Donald Nelson, and Robert (Carol Jean) Nelson.
