Dorothy Jane Brose, age 68, of Winsted Township, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Penas) Zeleny. Dorothy was baptized at St. Joseph’s Church in 1940.
She was raised on a farm by Bear Lake in the Hutchinson area, and attended kindergarten at Bear Lake School. She later attended St. Joseph Parochial School in Silver Lake, Hutchinson Junior and Senior High School, and graduated from Hutchinson High School.
Dorothy married Michael George Brose June 21, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake, officiated by Father Albert Slechta.
She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, the Holy Trinity CCW, and was also a member of the Catholic Workmen.
Dorothy was a former employee at the Victorian Inn in Hutchinson, Green Giant in Glencoe, and Mt. Olivet Rolling Acres in Excelsior until she retired. She also helped with the elderly and disabled, and enjoyed conversations with Father Walker.
Dorothy enjoyed caring for her children, seeing her grandchildren, watching TV, country music, traveling, gardening, and nature.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Brose; children, Sharon Menden and husband, Mark, of Shakopee; Mike Jr. of Shakopee, and Francis and Mark Brose of Winsted; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, and Sarah Menden; a sister, Vivian (Dan) Osmek of St. Louis Park, and a brother-in-law, Bernie Koktan of Glencoe.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lillian Zeleny; and a sister, Arlene Koktan.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Jan. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father William A. Sprigler was the celebrant. Alice Nowak was the organist, and the Holy Family Catholic Church choir provided special music. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a rosary recited at 4:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Jeremy Menden, Jason Menden, Kevin Koktan, Jim Osmek, Brenda Nemec, and Bill Droege.
