LeRoy Ervin Dake, age 81, of Erskine, MN, formerly of Howard Lake and Dassel, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
LeRoy was born July 5, 1928, in Howard Lake, to William B. and Amy (Mellon) Dake. He grew up on the family farm near Howard Lake, and graduated from Howard Lake High School.
As a young person, LeRoy chose to live for God, his Creator, and was faithful to that choice all through his life.
He was united in marriage to Yvonne Thomas Aug. 30, 1948. They lived at Dassel, Lester Prairie, and Blaine.
LeRoy farmed for a short time, and worked as a welder and millwright.
He loved his family, and enjoyed observing nature, working with his hands, traveling, and photography.
LeRoy and Yvonne moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine in July of 2008.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne Dake; his parents, William B. and Amy; a brother, Bill and Lois Dake; and sisters baby Mildred Dake, and Blanche Miller.
He is survived by three children, Ernest (Carolyn) Dake of Duluth, GA, Virginia (Larry) McCorkell of Blaine, and Larry (Sherry) Dake of Brooks, MN; five grandchildren, Gregory (Sonja) Dake of Durham, NC, Suzanne McCorkell of Greensboro, NC, Jennifer (Chris) Horne of Madison, AL, Sarah (Michael) Steinhauer of Wannaska, MN, and Amy (Ken) Harrison of Crookston, MN; and four great-grandchildren.
LeRoy is further survived by a brother-in law, James Miller, of Florida; and sisters Dorothy (Donald) Anderson of Alexandria, and Gert (Don) Pettit of Howard Lake.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine with visitation for one hour before the funeral. Richard Raschke, Caleb Dunham, and Suzanne McCorkell officiated. Interment was at Oakland Cemetery, rural McIntosh, MN.
The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, MN handled the arrangements.
