Arlene Dibb, 82

Arlene Bertha Emma Dibb, age 82, of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Winsted Township, the daughter of Albert and Sevilla (Seeman) Birkholz. Arlene was baptized Jan. 16, 1927, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bergen Twp. by the Rev. W. L. Ernst, and was confirmed into the faith March 17, 1940, also at St. Peter’s, by the Rev. J. A. Schert.

Arlene grew up in Winsted, where she attended school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Lester Prairie Public High School in 1944, and continued her education at the Minnesota School of Business.

Arlene was united in marriage with Douglas Dibb Aug. 3, 1947, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bergen Twp. by Rev. Streufert. The couple was blessed with three children.

Arlene worked at Farmer’s State Bank, Lester Prairie Public School, and Ralph’s Mobile Station. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

As a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Arlene taught Sunday school and took part in various church activities.

Arlene enjoyed old time music and crossword puzzles. She was a very caring person, enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved being a grandma and great-grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dean; and infant brother and infant sister, Earl and Grace.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Douglas, of Lester Prairie; her children, David Dibb (wife Nancy) of Watertown, and Debra Smilanich (husband Tom) of South St. Paul; grandchildren Corrie Madson (husband Mike), Toni Clemens (husband Brian), Stefan Smilanich, and Andrea Smilanich; great-grandchildren Michael Kvasnicka, Elizabeth Kvasnicka, Samuel Madson, Katelin Clemens, and Annie Clemens; brothers and sisters-in-law Earl Dibb Jr. (wife LaJune) of St. Cloud, Lyle Dibb, and Shirley Dibb, both of Lester Prairie; aunts Carolyn Kempfert, and Marcella Geertgen (husband Lloyd); as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Monday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. The organist was Marsha Christenson. Congregational hymns included “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Just as I Am,” “Amazing Grace,” and “I’m But a Stranger Here.” Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday evening, July 5, at the church.

Serving as casket bearers were Stefan Smilanich, Michael Kvasnicka, Mike Madson, Brian Clemens, Merrill Kempfert, and Keith Dibb.
