Helen E. Dreier, age 88, of Mayer, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
Helen was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Watertown Township, the daughter of Louis and Elsie (Zander) Hartwig.
She was united in marriage to Alwin W. Dreier May 12, 1940.
An active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer since 1940, Helen always attended Sunday worship. She loved tending to her flower garden and had a fine-looking vegetable garden.
Helen had a special talent when it came to crafts, making Christmas ornaments and calendars. She had a great knack for cooking and baking, never using a cookbook to come up with the recipe.
She enjoyed playing cards (sheephead and 500 were her favorite), and spending the day on the lake fishing.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Alwin; son Charles; parents Louis and Elsie Hartwig; and brothers Roy and Omar Hartwig.
She is survived by her loving family: son and daughter-in-law Ken and Karen Dreier of Mission, TX; grandchildren Marie and Gary Bachman, Scott and Dee Dreier, Paul Dreier, and Jennifer Zabel; great-grandchildren Holly Bachman, Joe Hafner, Danielle Dreier, Chris Zabel, Devin Dreier, and Tanner Komplain; great-great-grandchildren Devin Deerfield, and Morgan Rose Deerfield; sisters and brother-in-law Rosella and Rusell Olson of Mayer, and Lorraine Jurek of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Adam Gless officiated, and interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia. Online condolences to the family are available at www.johnsonfh.com.
