Shelby Lane Ecker, age 55, of Cokato, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at her home after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Sept. 1, 1954, in Brainerd, MN, to Gerald and Bernadine (Somers) Eveland. Shelby grew up in Backus and Montevideo, graduating from Backus High School in 1972.
She furthered her education at Ridgewater College and later Northwestern College, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.
Shelby was a stay-at-home mom for a good share of her life, and for the past 10 years, was a case manager at the Village Ranch in Cokato, a job she took great satisfaction in.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and old movies, and was a very loving and involved mother and grandmother.
Shelby is survived by her sons, Mark (Kim) of Minneapolis, Blair of Pine River, and Jason of Cokato; daughter-in-law Tracy of Backus; grandchildren Gavan, Wren, Laine, Easton, and Kailer Ecker; brother Bruce (Karen) of Backus; sister Linda (Dusty) of Backus; sister-in-law Susan of Riverside CT; sister Dawne Eveland of Edina; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and co-workers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother Gloria; and brother Randy.
Funeral services celebrating Shelby’s life took place Saturday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cokato, preceded by visitation, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers were Dean Grochow, Dean Hastings, Tom Spudic, Kevin Jelley, Dale Demell, Keno Walkes. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Bakeberg, Bill Salmela, Randy Wells, Dan Beyrs, and Dale Grochow.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
