Eugene “Gene” Paul Fasching, age 64, of Winsted died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at his residence after a year-long battle against pancreatic cancer.
He was born May 24, 1945, in Watertown, the son of Adolph “Ted” and Margaret “Margie” Scheiber Fasching.
Eugene and JoAnn M. Fasching were joined in holy marriage Nov. 26, 1966, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Gene co-owned and operated The Winsted Body Shop for over 30 years. He enjoyed drag racing and raced competitively for 20-plus years. In the 1990s, he served on various national racing teams as a crew member. He also designed and fabricated racing components and was co-owner of Triple T Race Products for the past 15 years.
A life-long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, in recent years, Gene became more involved in his church. He volunteered many hours at the Higher Ground Music Festival, was active in his church’s Alpha group, area men’s Bible study, and served as a communion distributor. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus Council 8253
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, JoAnn M. Fasching; children: Ted (Lori) Fasching of Winsted, Yvette (John) Dockendorf of St. Stephen, Terry (Julie) Fasching of Waverly, and Troy (Veronica) Fasching of Howard Lake; and 11 grandchildren: Connor Fasching; Mikayla, Mackenzie, Mitchell, Macy Jo and Madalyn Dockendorf; Christopher, Caroline, Andrew and Ivy Fasching; and Wyatt Fasching.
He is further survived by two sisters: Barbara (Harlan) Stender of New Germany, and Vonnie (Dale) Barsness of Danube; mother-in-law Derrolla Fasching of Winsted; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Ted, May 5, 2001; his mother, Margie, Aug. 16, 2005; a granddaughter, Geneva Fasching, Aug. 25, 2000; and by his father-in-law, William Fasching.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gene Fasching took place Monday, Dec. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with Father Tony Hesse as the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and continued Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Nathan Schlagel was the lector. Gene’s granddaughters were the gift bearers.
Honorary casket bearers were Gene’s grandsons.Casket bearers were Jerry Brown, Steve Fiecke, George Fleury, Joel Pettit, Marty Schermann, and Ken Westrup.
