Funeral services celebrating the life of Alan John Gebhardt, age 41, of Glencoe, took place Monday, June 1 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Alan died Friday, May 29, 2009, at University of Minnesota Medical Center.
He was born April 25, 1968, in Glencoe, the son of Emmert and Orvilla (Hedtke) Gebhardt. Alan was baptized May 19, 1968, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. Harold Bode, and confirmed into the faith by the same May 1, 1983.
Alan attended Lester Prairie School, graduating May 31, 1987. After graduating, he worked at Young America Cooperation.
He lived in the Glencoe area all his life.
Alan loved to watch sports.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents Alfred and Helene Gebhardt and Fred and Aletta Hedtke.
Alan is survived by his mother, Orvilla Gebhardt of Glencoe; sisters Jane Gebhardt of Hutchinson, and Dr. LeAnn Hutton (husband David) of Burnsville; aunts and uncles Cordella Schultz of Glencoe, Audrey Stenzel of Winthrop, Alvin and Shirley Hedtke of New Germany, and Myra and Gerald Nagel of Belle Plaine; as well as other relatives and friends.
Vicar David Erbel officiated at the 2 p.m. funeral service. The organist was Kay Gueningsman. Congregational hymns included “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want,” “Now the Light Has Gone Away” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were John Hedtke, Curtis Hedtke, David Stenzel, Jerome Stenzel, Michael Ostlie, and Ormond Ostlie.
