Arthur Joseph Gonsior, age 95, of Delano, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009.
He was born Dec. 24, 1913, in Franklin Township, to John and Julia (Matyshoke) Gonsior.
Art served in World War II with the US Army in Company A, 713th Railway Operating Battalion. He saw action in North Africa, Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, France, and Germany from June of 1942 to September of 1945.
He went on to work for Great Northern Railroad, which later merged to become Burlington Northern Railroad, now BNSF.
Art was united in marriage to Leona T. Kaiser Nov. 15, 1948, in Foley, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; brothers Peter and Agnes Gonsior, John and Dorothy Gonsior, and Anthony and Lucy Gonsior; and sisters Matilda and Bartek Baldy, Mayme and Joseph Gabriel, Rose Gonsior, Tracy and Matthew Niesen, Frances and Matthew Niesen, Helen and Frank Speckel, and Regina and Fred Zuehl.
Art is survived by his children, Kathleen and Russell Jacobson of Lincoln, NE, Janet and Robert Winter of Sioux Falls, SD, and LeRoy Gonsior of Delano; four grandchildren, Vicky Winter, Christopher and Melanie Winter, Douglas Jacobson, and Peter Jacobson; and a great-grandson, Caleb Winter; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Christopher Wenthe officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery, with military honors provided by Delano American Legion Post 377.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
