Victor Herbert Gruenhagen, age 78, of Howard Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Victor was born April 29, 1931, in Cokato, to Herbert and Helen (Reinmuth) Gruenhagen. He was baptized May 11, 1931, and confirmed March 25, 1945, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
Victor was married to Myrtle Marquette April 4, 1953, at St. James Lutheran Church. The union was blessed with seven children.
Victor lived in Howard Lake his entire life, working on the family farm.
He spent much of his time skiing, dancing, and supporting his hometown Orphans baseball team, of which he was an original member from 1949 to 1962. Baseball was an important interest to Victor, whether it was the Orphans, amateur, professional, or his grandchildren’s games.
Victor is survived by his children, Kevin Gruenhagen of Howard Lake, Trudy (Mark) Latt of Dassel, Randy “Herbie” Gruenhagen, David Gruenhagen, both of Howard Lake, Twila Gruenhagen of Cokato, Glenn (Emily) Gruenhagen of Eden Valley, and Terry (Anita) Gruenhagen of Becker; a brother, Elton Gruenhagen of Howard Lake; a sister, Erla May Jackson of Glendale, AZ; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Helen; and a sister, Barb Talbot.
Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Interment was Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
