Margaret H. Hafften, age 91, of Buffalo, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
She was born in Buffalo May 22, 1917, to Edward Louis and Hattie A. (nee Walz) Kobbe. Margaret was baptized June 24, 1917, and confirmed Aug. 17, 1930, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pelican Lake.
She was also married at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Nov. 4, 1939, to Keith K. Hafften.
A class of 1935 graduate of Buffalo High School, Margaret worked for 17 years in the cutting room for Wonderalls children’s clothing factory in Buffalo.
She was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo, its Ladies Aid, Bible study, and sewing group.
Margaret enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and gardening, especially flowers.
She is survived by her children, Jeanette (Donald) Holm of Cokato, and Ken (Eileen) Hafften of Blaine; sister-in-law Clarice Sherman of Buffalo; six grandchildren: Mark (Susie) and Brad (Beth) Holm, Julie (John) Newstrom, Karen (Lance) Vargason; and Nick and Emily Hafften; great-grandchildren Derek and Cassidy Holm, Samantha and Jack Newstrom, and Taylor and Carli Vargason; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Harold and Ervin Kobbe.
The funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo with Pastor James Disney officiating. Sandi Baert was the organist, and Lib Larson was the soloist. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.
The casket bearers were Mark Holm, Bradley Holm, Nicholas Hafften, John Newstrom, Lance Vargason, and Robert Ordorff. Honorary bearers were Richard Kobbe and Emily Hafften.
Visitation was Monday, Jan. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel-Buffalo, and continued Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, one hour before the funeral service.
