Elaine Ida Helget, age 63, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
She was born Nov. 18, 1945, in Sleepy Eye, to Michael and Agnes (Hillesheim) Treml. Elaine attended the Church of the Japanese Martyrs Grade School in Leavenworth, and was a 1963 graduate of Springfield High School.
Elaine was united in marriage to Pat Helget Aug. 13, 1963, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth.
She was employed at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye as a nurse’s aid.
Elaine enjoyed gardening, lawn care, flowers, reading, collecting Hummel figurines, and was an avid sports fan.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
Elaine is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Chris and John Bayerl of Lester Prairie, and Kathryn and Bobby Auglin of Waverly; sons and daughter-in-law Steve Helget of Montgomery, Dan Helget of Mankato, and Brooks and Kathy Helget of Cokato; three grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Floyd Sellner of Rosemount, Eileen and Del Grund of Madelia, Joan and Glen Schimaski of Warsaw, IN, and Jeanette and Joe McMullen of Plummer; and brothers and sisters-in-law Ed and Annette Treml of Sleepy Eye, Jim and JoAnne Treml of Wabasso, Michael “Chuck” and Rita Treml Jr. of New Ulm, and Leon Treml of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her brothers, Dennis, Marvin, and Jerome Treml.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Father Andy Michaels celebrated the Mass.
Visitation was Thursday, April 16 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary and parish prayer service at 6 p.m., and continued Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., all at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
