Funeral services celebrating the life of George Herrmann Jr., age 83, of Watertown, and formerly of Norwood Young America, were Monday, Aug. 3 at the Church Of Peace in Norwood Young America. George entered eternal rest Wednesday July 29, 2009, at the Elim Nursing Home in Watertown.
George was born June 22, 1926, in Norwood, the son of George and Selma (Roth) Herrmann. He was baptized Aug. 29, 1926, at the Zion Evangelical United Church Of Christ of rural Norwood, and confirmed March 17, 1939, at the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Norwood.
George was united in marriage with Verona Jenneke Dec. 6, 1946. This union was blessed with two sons, Richard and Robert.
George farmed until 1959, when he moved to Norwood and began a livestock trucking business. After retirement, he drove school bus and worked odd jobs, such as mowing lawn for others.
George was married to Vivian Domjahn Oct. 23, 1987. He has been a resident of Watertown ever since.
He enjoyed driving, visiting with family and friends, and will be remembered for his hearty laugh, his smile, and his big hugs.
George is survived by his wife, Vivian Herrmann of Watertown; children, Richard Herrmann (wife Carol) of Norwood Young America, and Robert Herrmann of Austin, TX; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepchildren Jerry Domjahn (wife Peggy), Janet Chaffee (husband Doc), and Jeff Domjahn; six step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
George is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Velma Herrmann, Renata Herrmann, Marion Boll, Betty Boll, Clarence and Virginia Matter, Orville and Bonny Pawelk, and Bill and Pam Zins; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters.
The Rev. Lynda Johnson officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Nancy Smith. Congregational hymns included “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “Abide With Me,” and “Here I Am Lord.” Interment was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Norwood Young America.
Serving as casket bearers were Matt Herrmann, Brian Herrmann, Troy Herrmann, Ben Domjahn, Jerry Domjahn, and Jeff Domjahn.
Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, and continued Monday for one hour prior to the service.
