Marvin E. Hirsch Sr. Obituary – 9/15/09


Marvin Edward Hirsch Sr., age 80, of Winsted, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Lakeview Ranch in Dassel.

He was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Norwood, the son of Edward and Josephine “Mamie” Wedikind Hirsch.

Marvin honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II and Korea.

He was joined in holy marriage to Delores M. Ring April 22, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Minneapolis. God blessed their marriage with 11 children.

Marvin and Delores owned and operated his family’s business, Hirsch Mercantile, in downtown Winsted for over 50 years, from which Marvin retired in 1979. He later became involved with the buying/selling of real estate properties.

A lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Marvin sent all 11 of his children to Holy Trinity School. He belonged to The Knights of Columbus Council 8253, and Winsted American Legion Post 407 for 60 years.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Delores M. Hirsch; children Marvin “Doug” Hirsch Jr. and spouse Debby, Denise Waldoch and spouse Fred, Daniel Hirsch and spouse Dawn, Kelli Kulseth and spouse Doug, Cary Hirsch and spouse Jane, David Hirsch and (Connie Quast), Mary Kubasch and spouse Kent, Trudi Perkins and spouse John, Marty Hirsch and spouse Lisa, and Jeremy Hirsch and spouse Trisha; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Hirsch of Texas, and John Hirsch of Howard Lake; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Caron Anne Franklin; his parents; and by three sisters, Gloria Hirsch, Gladys Hirsch, and Joyce Kohler.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Hesse and Father Jack Brunner were concelebrants. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 5:30 p.m., an American Legion ritual at 6:45 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

Casket bearers were Marvin’s six sons: Marvin “Doug” Hirsch Jr., Daniel Hirsch, Cary Hirsch, David Hirsch, Marty Hirsch, and Jeremy Hirsch.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
