Mary L. Holmgren, age 91, of Watertown, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with visitation for one hour prior to the Mass at church. Father Frank Wampach will be the celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.

Mary was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Watertown, the daughter of Andrew and Adelaide “Lyda” (Motzko) Florek. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
Mary was united in marriage to Donald F. Holmgren Oct. 7, 1941, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
A graduate of Watertown High School, Mary continued her education and graduated from beauty school. She worked as a beautician for 42 years.
A loving and devoted wife, Mary loved to dance, play cards, cook, bake, and entertain. She and Don had their annual Thanksgiving dinner at their home for many years, and they enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for 20 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother, Andrew and Adelaide “Lyda” Florek; brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Georgina “Tommy” Florek; father-in-law and mother-in-law Emil and Ellen Holmgren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Arnold Hazel Holmgren, Gilbert and Blanche, Gunnard Holmgren, Glen Holmgren, Milton Holmgren; and sisters-in-law Ilo and Paul Schueler and Gladys and Henry Strandquist.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Donald; sister-in-law Mildred Holmgren of Minneapolis; nieces and nephews, Jeanette and Wayne Hermansen, Julie and Gerald Popp, Steve and Karleen Florek, Cindy and James Ehalt, Jane Coy-Pysick, Betty and Bob VanTassel, Joan and Bob Kircher, Sharon and Paul Rosenau, Glenda and Jerry Donley, Hoagy and Joan Holmgren, Gary and Sue Holmgren, Bill and Gloria Strandquist; and great-nieces nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
