Rita Kay “Murphy” Holmgren, age 54, of Dassel, formerly of Soldiers Grove, WI, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at her home.
Rita was born Oct. 20, 1955, in Richland Center, WI, the daughter of Clifford and Lorraine (Bock) Murphy. She grew up in Wisconsin, and graduated from North Crawford High School in 1973.
Rita was united in marriage to Kurt Holmgren Feb. 2, 1988, in Litchfield. They made their home west of Dassel, where they raised their three children.
Rita loved to spend time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed taking care of, and spoiling her grandson, Jonathyn. A hard worker, Rita could be found doing the house chores, along with working side-by-side with her husband, Kurt and her son, Travis in the concrete business. She also had recently been cleaning the St. John’s Education Center in Cokato.
Rita loved to spend time in her garden. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting, antiquing, and visiting with family and friends. She was an avid gold miner and Kurt and Rita had taken a couple of trips to Nome, AK to go mining for gold.
She will dearly be missed by her family and friends.
Rita is survived by her husband, Kurt Holmgren of Dassel; children Travis Friedmann (and significant other, Amy Lackmann) of Worthing, SD, Maureen Holmgren (and significant other, Eric Olson), Joseph Holmgren, all of Dassel; one grandchild, Jonathyn Holmgren; parents Clifford and Lorraine Murphy of Soldiers Grove, WI; and siblings James Murphy of West Salem, WI, Tom (Sally) Murphy of Soldiers Grove, WI, Tim (Mary) Murphy of Blue River, WI, Fritz Murphy of Soldiers Grove, WI, Terry (Barb) Murphy of Gays Mills, WI, Ann (Ray) Aspenson of On, AK, Phyllis (Mark) Lucey of Boscobel, WI, and Pat (Jeff) Flattery of Sparta, NC.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Nov. 30 in Readstown, WI. A memorial service is planned at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin at a later date.
Visitation also took place Friday evening, Nov. 27 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
