Rodney E. Horrmann, 63

Rodney Elmer Horrmann, age 63, of Bird Island, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.

Funeral services are Monday, Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with the Rev. Matt Hausken officiating.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia, and continues Monday at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Rodney was born Oct. 25, 1945, at Hutchinson, to George and Elsie (Kuester) Horrmann. He grew up on the family farm at Hutchinson.

Rod was baptized, confirmed, and attended elementary school at Acoma Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School, and then served in the US Army.

In 1965, Rodney married Nancy Boldt and they had two children.

In 1980, Rod married Carol Rahn and they made their home in Hutchinson, where he worked various jobs as well as having owned and managed businesses.

Rodney and Carol moved to West St. Paul in 1984, where they worked at Diamond Lake Bowling Alley. Rodney always enjoyed telling the story of the time he taught Kirby Puckett to bowl.

They lived in Dassel, where they owned and operated the Prairie House Restaurant, and Rod had served as mayor.

Later they moved to Bird Island to be closer to their grandchildren and at this time, he worked at Jackpot Junction, the Sheep Shedde, and most recently at Alco.

Rod enjoyed family time, playing with his dog, fishing, sports, playing cards, golfing, and especially bowling, and was proud of his trophies.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Bird Island; his son, Troy (and Christa) Horrmann of Plymouth; his daughter, Gwyn (and Greg) Rasmussen of Medina; his stepdaughter, Cindy (and Gaylord) Johnson of Bird Island; his grandchildren: Natashia (and Ryan) Johnson, Mitchell Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Davis Rasmusson, and Kathryn Rasmusson; his brother, George Horrmann; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Horrmann.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Clifford Horrmann.
