Nils Iverson, age 69, of Franklin, MN died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.

Funeral services will take place today, Monday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, and at 2 p.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Interment will follow at New Ulm City Cemetery.

Nils was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Oklahoma City, OK.

He graduated from New Ulm High School in May, 1959. While a student, Nils lettered in gymnastics, basketball, and baseball. He was the premier pitcher and team leader on the New Ulm High School baseball team that placed third in the 1959 Minnesota State High School Tournament, a team many believe to be the genesis of the re-emergence of New Ulm as a perennial state high school baseball power.

Nils successfully continued his baseball playing days after high school on numerous amateur teams throughout southern Minnesota.

He began a professional driving career with Van Waters and Rogers, and then worked as a cross country professional driver for many years before retiring in 2003.

Nils was preceded in death by his father, Noel Iverson.

He is survived by his stepmother, Emma Iverson of New Ulm; daughter Emmi Iverson of Hutchinson; brothers Noel Jr. of Hamilton, Ontario, and Alan of St. Paul; and sisters Virginia Pottsmith of Rochester, and Diane Knapp (James) of Old Town, FL.

Nils was a dear son, brother, and friend and he will be sorely missed.
