John A. Jacobs, age 78, of Blaine, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Golden Living Center Lake Ridge in Roseville.
He was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, the son of John and Alberta G. Peterson Jacobs.
John graduated from Rockford High School in 1948, and later completed a two-year accounting correspondence course.
John honorably served his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1954.
He was joined in holy marriage with Shirley J. Thingvold Sept. 8, 1956, in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with five children.
John engaged in dairy farming near Lake Rebecca from 1954 to 1962. He then was employed as a retail salesman at Johnny’s Implement in Buffalo from Jan. 1, 1962, to Jan. 1, 1963. John also sold health and accident insurance part time.
From January 1963 to August 1971, John was employed as a district manager for Massey-Ferguson, Inc. He traveled north central Minnesota, establishing and maintaining a dealer organization in the business of retailing farming, industrial, lawn and garden equipment, and snowmobiles.
John served as president and general manager of The Owatonna Farm Center, Inc. in Owatonna from August of 1971 to November of 1976. From November 1976 to October 1979, he served as president and part owner of J & W Implement, Inc. in Kasson, MN. This implement dealership sold Massey-Ferguson, White, and Hesston farm machinery.
From October of 1979 until retirement, John was a district manager for AGCO Corporation. His duties included being responsible for maintaining a sales organization consisting of a group of independent farm equipment dealers in the business of selling AGCO farm equipment.
John enjoyed golfing, camping, running, photography, and cycling, and he especially enjoyed time spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley J. Jacobs; children, Susie Jacobs, David (Pam Taylor) Jacobs, Sandy (Bob) Brama, Billy Jacobs, and Tom Jacobs and family; five step-grandchildren: Chris, Billy, Joey, Patrick and Timmy Brama; two grandchildren: Jonathan and Brittany Brama; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alberta Jacobs.
Funeral services took place Monday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Chaplain Tom Davis officiated.
Interment with military honors took place Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
