Carol Mamie Jean Jarvi, age 77, of Cokato, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
She was born on the farm in Stockholm Township Aug. 16, 1931, to Carl and Mamie (Aho) Peterson. Carol grew up there, attended the Stockholm School, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1949.
She was a very good softball player and after high school, played in a league in Minneapolis that went on to the national championship.
After high school, Carol moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for the Scott Atwater Company, which later became McCulloch Company.
Carol married Willard Jarvi Jan. 18, 1964.
A very competitive fisherman, Carol spent many hours in the boat trying to outfish Willard. She was also a good bowler and played on a league for Leaf Brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Janet Gilmer; and brothers Donald Peterson and Stanley Peterson.
Carol is survived by her husband, Willard, of Cokato; son Troy (Suzanne) of Burnsville; brothers Clarence (Elaine) Peterson of Plymouth, Lloyd Peterson of Round Rock, TX, and Gary (Shirley) Peterson of Cokato; and grandsons Ian and Reid.
The funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at North Crow River Lutheran Church, north of Cokato. Interment was in the Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
Visitation took place Friday, Feb. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato handled the arrangements.
